Some of the spreadsheet functionality can be frustrating. It's not Excel, but then nothing else really is.
We use Workiva to file our quarterly SEC documents. Workiva makes the process seemless by allowing us to sync our support workbook with their platform, link numbers between documents, and create an easy to use XBRL and filing platform.
I have experience with Workiva from working in cloud management. The most remarkable is its great user interface, which unifies multiple teams from different departments. The platform is designed to offer real-time business updates, and this retains everyone around the loop and promotes our cumulative reception of the events in a better way.
But there are a few things to ask for perfection. They have sometimes not been very good on text formatting which is a problem if one wants to customize their documents. Moreover, the security profiles and system administrators’ roles would become more transparent, principally regarding software compatibility and documents uploading.
Workiva has helped us address our data management and reporting concerns. This has made it easier to collect and share information within the organization, thereby enhancing decision-making and efficiency.

It is very intuitive. The look, functionality and feel of it is very similar to MS Word. It can perform calculations similar to MS Excel and I can copy and paste tables from Excel or Word to Workiva. What I like most is the linking feature. I don't have to worry about the footnote schedule not tying out to the related face statement as long as the numbers are linked between these two. Another favorite is the certification process. We're able to centralize the communication process within Workiva and print a document that shows the certifiers date and signature stamps without having to deal with the back and forth in Outloook.
Currently, we can't see the old version of a document that has been milestoned. It would be nice to have this in future releases.
Automation of financial statement preparation. We are looking to leverage Workiva for our internal request listing and we are currently working with Ashley B on this. This is another feature that will streamline the collection of data as an input for our statutory audits.
How easy it is to navigate and collaborate with others on the platform. Easy to use for all audits, especially SOX testing. Small or large teams are able to use.
It is very slow and lags often. Also, we often have additional issues after updates have been made by their IT team. They take long to respond and make the changes.
Every time there is any updates as little as being able to press enter within the platform has made life so much easier to manage. The main issues are basic functionalities that were not previously available.
The ease of use. Ability to build a reporting pack for immediate use, and then incremementally evolve into a fully integrated-automated report. The fact that it's capabilities are very similar to Microsoft Offcie (Excel, Word and PowerPoint) - the learning curve is not very steep at all. Allows for greater autonomy.
The 2M cell limit can be an issue for the larger reports

The product is easy to use and user friendly - very dynamic and adaptable, I have yet to receive a request that I could not incorporate for our corporate reporting. This product works very well with a diverse project team from different disciplines, and everyone enjoys working in it and reports that this makes reporting so much easier.
Collaboration and tracking progress has never been easier and our interface with the professional design team has also benefited. The linking of data is by far the best feature - rolling forward documents and updating with the latest data take mere minutes.
Wdesk was also extremely easy to implement and we use it for all of our corporate reporting. We have also added other solutions such as controls management and the ESG solution. This product is very easy to integrate with your existing systems and the customer support is excellent.

Workiva is easy to use. It's pretty intuitive and the training offers simple overviews of the tool. We're implementing the ESG soution this year and the capability and scope for efficiency savings in the future is huge. As well as creating effective controls before our data gets published into the reports.
The biggest challenge with Workiva stems from its key strenghts - it is vast. The capability of the tool is so huge that external consultants are needed to help scope the work and deliver the solutions.

As one who manages software development teams, my experience with Workiva--and of note their WDESK platform--has been mostly favorable. What's most remarkable is the way it combines all aspects of financial reporting in one. With this integration, the preparation and compilation of complicated reports normally requiring much manual intervention becomes a more convenient process. Moreover, Workiva's customer service is impressive; they are responsive and technical support is always available for the software. I also see constant improvements in the features of the platform, and this reflects their determination to improve users 'experience.
However, there are some downsides. It is a huge time investment, and learning it and getting up and running efficiently can be a small wall to overcome at first. In addition, when several documents are being worked on at the same time performance was sometimes sluggish and this impacted workflow.
Workiva has been invaluable to us, simplifying our reporting process and saving a great deal of time. This efficiency has been especially helpful in handling and condensing large data volumes, often a part of our jobs. What's most apparent is the effect it has on collaboration across different teams. Everyone is singing from the same hymn sheet, and this is crucial for my position where I have to coordinate all different facets of software development.
