"Flexible, secure and well supported"
What do you like best about OpenText NetIQ Access Manager?

Simple integration with Password Self Service (separate product) to provide integrated password expiry management.

SAML IDP support which we use for a number partner cloud and internal services. Works with latest Shibboleth service provider which is great for education and research institutions.

Additional security from access gateway allows you to completely restrict access to a web service. This protects from the usual url probing sites experience looking for vulnerabilities in site code. Also ability to support legacy web applications via form filling it extremely useful to provide SSO features for users whilst providing that extra layer of security.

Excellent support documents and their support people are very good. I have over the the years had a couple of SR opened and resolved very satisfactorily.

What do you dislike about OpenText NetIQ Access Manager?

It can be a bit of a step learning curve to understand the architecture, but it pays off to do so.

More out of the box integrations with two factor authentication providers would be good. It isn't hard to do your self as it is a very flexible system, but you do need some basic java skills or a good consultant.

Recommendations to others considering OpenText NetIQ Access Manager:

Flexible and supportive company. You can get answers to your questions, you might need to find the right person but it can be done. This is not my experience with a lot of other companies.

What problems is OpenText NetIQ Access Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?

Streamlined access to resources for staff and students.

Reduced support calls for expired passwords. With the Password Self Service integration, users are prompted to update their password when it expires. It also provides a consistent login experience.

The biggest improvement for user is spend less time constantly logging in which used to be a common complaint.

"Simple to use but full of options"
What do you like best about OpenText NetIQ Access Manager?

SAML configuration is a breeze when provided metadata.

The option to form fill and proxy sites that don't offer SAML is convenient.

Little to no coding experience necessary to deploy product.

What do you dislike about OpenText NetIQ Access Manager?

Infrastracture components can be complex to deploy but I think that that may have improved in recent versions.

Administration of the system is sluggish in a DR situation where components are cut off from each other.

Recommendations to others considering OpenText NetIQ Access Manager:

A good, well supported product for the price.

What problems is OpenText NetIQ Access Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?

SSO and federation for internal and SaaS applications.

"The single application one needs for all secure professional activities!!"
What do you like best about OpenText NetIQ Access Manager?

The simple Single Sign On as the only step for all the identity management makes the tracking of all activities in the org extremely simple. This is what I like the best

What do you dislike about OpenText NetIQ Access Manager?

Sometimes, there will be downtime/issues with SSO and we need to try multiple times to get the SSO started. This is something that I dislike and can be improved by the team

What problems is OpenText NetIQ Access Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?

Control of certain acceses to new features and functionalities to users/clients as pre/beta access. This has helped us to control the flow of operations in a synchronous way

"NetIQ Access Manager - A perfect solution for both Identity and Access Management"
What do you like best about OpenText NetIQ Access Manager?

The product's compatibility with both NetIQ identity manager and NetIQ access manager and Implementation is easy to use. The NetIQ provides different solutions like NetIQ Advanced Authentication for Multi-factor authentication.

What do you dislike about OpenText NetIQ Access Manager?

As mentioned, It provides features as a different product; for example, if you want to use advanced authentication like social login, 2FA, SMS OTP, email OTP, we have to install an Advanced authentication framework. For feteching governance reports we have to use NetIQ Governance tool. It will be useful if they provide the all the features under one platform.

Recommendations to others considering OpenText NetIQ Access Manager:

Need to concentrate on the product revamping, including all the access management and identity management solutions under one roof as one product.

What problems is OpenText NetIQ Access Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?

The enablement of Single Sign-On, using SAML, OAuth for the enterprise applications, NAM was easy to use. Authentication and Authorization are achievable using the NetIQ Access Manager and the NetIQ Identity Manager. We can implement two-factor authentication using NetIQ Access Manager and NetIQ AA framework. We can enhance the security by providing another level of authentication.

"Management Access the Right Way!"
What do you like best about OpenText NetIQ Access Manager?

It is a great tool to use not only for your business, but in every day life as well. It makes your devices and computer a little more secure with SSO Features.

What do you dislike about OpenText NetIQ Access Manager?

As products go there really isn't that much that I dislike with the application.

Recommendations to others considering OpenText NetIQ Access Manager:

Everyone needs to try this out as we have moved in a direction of cloud based management. Keeping information safe is important to not only business life, but personal life as well.

What problems is OpenText NetIQ Access Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?

There are days when someone might not remember their password or somehow get locked out of the system. This gives them the ability to still safely access their information on the cloud and in the shared network without having to wait forever for a new password and verification.

"Enterprise Access Management"
What do you like best about OpenText NetIQ Access Manager?

This tool is used to provide single sign-on / federated access to a suite of Java applications and reporting/collaboration tools.

Licensing for this tool is calculated based on the number of users accessing the applications behind it so determining cost is as simple as counting the number of active accounts.

The current versions of this tool can be installed as services on standard Redhat Enterprise servers which allows for easy integration into an environment where this operating system is already utilized.

What do you dislike about OpenText NetIQ Access Manager?

While we have been able to configure a large number of applications to sit behind the NAM, there are some applications that cannot be configured to do so. An example of one of these applications is Cisco Show & Share. When users access this tool, a component (WOWZA) wants the client to talk directly to it on a port other than 80 or 443. While this issue could be resolved by Cisco and NetIQ is not to blame, it is something that should be considered when bringing a tool like NAM into one's environment. Of course, be sure to perform careful analysis of your existing apps, but also think hard about apps that may be introduced in the future.

Recommendations to others considering OpenText NetIQ Access Manager:

As I said earlier in this review, be sure to perform careful compatibility analysis of both existing and future applications.

What problems is OpenText NetIQ Access Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?

This tool has been used to allow customers to provide credentials only once in order to access a suite of applications (single sign-on) and has also been used to allow Federated access. The benefits realized by introducing this functionality are improved convenience for users by only having to enter credentials once and improved user management.
