I am impressed by Informatica's product integration (e.g. PC 'talks' to PWX and IDQ etc) as well as the robust OOTB content for cleansing rules, reference data and industry specific validation rules. The IDQ Developer tool has productivity and debugging features such as mid-stream profiling.

The biggest downside to IDQ is the relative cost to other tools. As a consultant, I find that many clients just cannot justify the Informatica price tag $$ and often chose an open source solution. They later discover the cost of coding the transformation rules from scratch outrun the cost of INFA license.

I recently used IDQ to cleanse customer data, in conjunction with MDM. The development time using IDQ is significantly reduced while all rules are maintained in the INFA repository. INFA IDQ and MDM products are nicely integrated.

The correction of equations and methods have worked out pretty well with IDQ when it comes to manual data entry, as it has allowed us to have a proper interpretation of the results. It is really helpful when you want to blend with current ETL mapping regulations and also provide added value by some quality control statements. Also, it allows you to look at the data in real-time, as the data quality algorithm tests and performs the specific rules after building the job by developing a Navigation window to instantly update and access the data. For reliable and immaculate results, IDQ assisted us by identifying inaccurate accounting information.

It was difficult for us to export wrong record tables and redundant tables. Also, you probably will need a very powerful hardware to be able to use IDQ properly, as it takes a lot of resources from your computer.

IDQ will work great for client emails, product names, passwords and statuses. You'll be able to import the Data quality mapplets from the server’s developers by using Informatica Power Center. In general, IDQ is a nice product to interpret and translate data in several fields.

IDQ has extreme flexibility in how you create rules to identify what is out of compliance. No matter how complex your rules.

It is not the cheapest solution, but at this time I believe it is the best solution. Knowing your customers and accurately managing them justify getting the best product.

Transformations - the types of transformations (SQL Logics) provided are unmatched to any other ETL tool out there. When it comes to using transformations, even a beginner can understand with minimal effort, how to use them or what the expected output will be using that particular transformation. Most of them are self-explanatory, and provide the desired output. Especially Expression Transformation (which is the heart of any mapping).

Each night we process every customer, vendor and product. We generate reports of exceptions and these are distributed to the stewards of the data to allow them to correct issues.

Informatica works really well for taking data from one source to another, no matter what the sources are - database, flatfile, mainframe, Unix, windows.

I like the option of building all data rules in a centralized location and then applying it to numerous data sources. Makes it easier to update as business rules change/evolve over a period of time. Data lineage and score carding are also good feature.

It does take some time and training to get use to all of data quality and governance tool. There is a learning curve period for resources.

If your organization is data driven and thrive for good quality data to make decisions then this tool is very helpful.
