Since, Macie covers s3, cloudwatch covers VPC logs, Cloudtrail with api calls within services. There were some limitations within them. Since our infrastructure may be secure, but in case of defense in depth, we should always consider regular patching of EC2, identify unwanted softwares. Who and when it happened. All these should be logged for correlating purpose. System Manager with help of agents and aggregators shows the posture of an OS or an EC2 or running core. The integration is also very simple with other services to make sure security and compliance is in stand. Coming to patch manager, using playbooks were pretty easy and risk free as it could be triggered based on rules. Thanks for such a service. Implementation and support are always available from docs, whitepapers, community etc, .

Downside is, Overall , in view of compliance sometimes PII uploaded to s3 can be identified with Macie. But when its an image or pdf containing photo copies of such personal sensitive information its hard to identify. It might be stored on the ec2 or s3. But figuring out it is complex. We do have OCR techniques in some services, which can trigger ec2 playbooks. Yes , it can be achievable with right problem solving technique and using the required services.

Security Patches, Trigger based actions on infrastructure. Logging for IOC identifications. Many more.

The most helpful about AWS system manager is it works with hybrid cloud systems including on-prem systems.

The downside of AWS system manager is it doesn't support third-party extensions.

The best thing i like about aws systems manager is they provide dashboard category wise such as operations management, application management, node management, shared resources, automation management. It is a centralized access control which also helps us in auditing control.

Aws provides us amazing cloud features which no other competitor provides. Hence i do not dislike anything about it. I have not used much features of Google cloud platform and Microsoft azure

Aws systems manager keeps me updated about the services that i have been using in order to keep my infrastructure in active state. It allows us to view and control our cloud infrastructure. It helps me in maintain Security and detects vulnerable activites that goes against the policy.

Complete removal of SSH access to production servers has reduced my maintenance time. Coupled with the RunCommand to send common commands to multiple servers I reduced hours of work to minutes.

Getting started and using Patch Baselines is more convoluted the I think it should be -- especially for the most common operating systems.

Access control has gotten completely streamlined to IAM users and roles. I don't need to manage SSH keys for either developers or devops people anymore.

I just started to look into this service and tried different things and I have to say this works so well managing your AWS resources. It saves you time to manage EC2 instances, configurations etc. One thing I did is to use the System Manager to store configuration file and deploy the configuration to my EC2 instances. The configuration is to set up the CloudWatch Agent and push the metrics to CloudWatch. It worked really well. You do not have to go into each instance and deploy the configuration file. With one click you set up all instances.

I have not found anything I do not like. Enjoying it so far.

If you are looking something to manage/configure your AWS resources, this is the right choice.

Very easy to not only manage separate instances without having to remote into them, but intuitive parameters make broad patches a cinch.

None to be honest. The only slight issue was a technical glitch regarding my firewall picking it up as a problem (which it was not).

Honestly a very good purchase. Would recommend if you're looking for an easy way to manage multiple instances without having to manually enter them one at a time.
