With Visual Lansa, platform interconnection is easy and developing web-based applications is a no-brainer. The best thing is having all this with just one development language and loads of out-of- the-box templates to help one get started.
The documentation is quite good but could be better...There's still a tiny developer community. Although there's a visual lansa forum, there should also be some (example) stack overflow usage.
Visual Lansa helps a lot when using IBM i, especially when we need integration with other platforms, consuming webservices or even building web/mobile applications.
PROS: What I love most about this platform is its repository. It lets us keep track of all our app development objects and makes the promotion of the objects from the development through to Production as well as QA environments seamless It also promotes the reuse of objects. Apart from that, I also like how simple yet powerful the language is. We're able to develop a website, windows, and mobile app.
CONS: There are two things I could consider a con. First, Windows dlls deployment process to Citrix server needs to be improved. Second, the Version Control system does not work as part of the slave Integrated Development Environment Install. It would be helpful if it does.
PROS: Visual LANSA eliminates the need to dive into any other technology like JSON or to modify any JavaSript or HTML because this platform alone can take care of almost everything. It’s also convenient because we don’t have to learn anything but this tool.
CONS: None. I cannot think of anything that can be considered as a con.
PROS: We’re able to deploy software improvements to our WMS apps quickly and easily.
CONS: I cannot think of anything that can be considered as a drawback of using this solution. I have been using this since I started working as an RPG programmer and everything works fine. In fact, it has made my job easier. It takes care of most of the coding job so I don’t have to.
I really like the flexible integrated developer environment, which was very easy to learn and use, along with the simple language to get things done. I can do everything I need to within the single IDE. Because of the ease of use I was able to start programming and contributing to our team's first project fairly quickly. With our second project we took advantage of the built-in Google Material Design controls in creating a mobile application.
The installation and the configuration of the developer client seem to be overly complicated. But, once set up, it's smooth sailing until the next upgrade requires license keys to for installation. I think the installation process can be improved. Fortunately, the installation hasn't been required that often so it's not that big of a deal. Also, some better calendaring options would be nice. We, with the help of LANSA support, had to do some really complicated programming to pull off a scheduling application.
LANSA is an easy to learn solution for building Windows, Web, and Mobile applications that helped us centralize data and web-enabled business pocesses on the Series i to achieve our goals. The LANSA support team has continued to offer help and guidance in achieving those goals.
We are using Visual Lansa to centralize not just data but also some processes to the Series i. So far we've replaced two end-of-support legacy applications that required special clients and are in the processes of designing a third. Each of those systems required a significant amount of resources to run, including their own servers. By using LANSA we will not only centralize the data, but also reduce the number of servers required to run our business processes.
VL is easy to develop and user-friendly software, also easy to make changes.
I have no dislike to mention, but I am waiting to see more examples of VL functions. I mean a variety of samples.
Visual LANSA is easy to code and user-friendly. You can create more in less time. Most of the coding errors are upfront (not at compile time), making the programmer's life easier.
Mostly we have VL for receiving our customer orders and send them invoices. By moving to VL on the WEB, we significantly resolved many customer issues.
PROS: It let us have a single repository for every definition for our apps, making our team more efficient. The product is being improved on a constant basis. We are able to enjoy new functionalities with every new version that they release. They offer add-on tools such as Integrator and other terrific features that let us quickly perform functions that normally take us too much time to do.
CONS: Sometimes, I misunderstand the use of a feature available. But other than that, everything is great and working fairly well.
PROS: LANSA has made it possible to develop apps even without having a deep knowledge of all the required techniques and languages. It gives us all the tools we need. But I guess the best thing about this tool is that it has never been stagnant. Technology is constantly changing, so is LANSA. I love that it always makes sure that the latest technologies are incorporated in the system so we, the users, will never be left behind or miss the trend.
CONS: LANSA is overall great. The only problem is that it is hard to find a person who is adept or has experience using this platform.
PROS: I love the ease of learning programming and developing apps using this tool. I don’t have extensive knowledge about programming language or guidance from an expert in this field but I have already successfully written apps for Claims, Accounting, Marketing, etc. As per my experience, you just need to have an understanding of logic.
CONS: The built-in reporting feature’s documentation isn’t comprehensive enough. Also, I feel like it does not offer as much flexibility as the Crystal Reports. We write so many reports running on AS400 so more flexibility would be very helpful.

Developer friendly, easy to learn and use, easily to merge to existing ERP applications, not require high programming skills, easy to maintain programs, repository organized everything and easy to access, VL makes complex ERP application user frienly, it has more fantastic features over IBM business i series, I love this great siftware!
Has used Lansa for many years, really has nothing to complain.
Web application development needs at least java script and HTML skills, Visual Lansa provides the tools easily to design web application and access backend IBM i platform database, it gives programmer more options and take all the advantage of Visual Lansa on web development.
