Reporting functionality is easy to use for most.
There is nothing in particular that I dislike
The financial administration of our program
Ease of getting data out of the system, very flexible.
With the flexibility comes different complexities, need to make sure you are smart in how you setup your system.
Take the time to think through the attributes you are setting up and thing through the consequences of them.
We were looking for ways to have flexibility in reporting. Through the many attributes we have added we have been able to accomplish this.
ABW is an extremely versatile product allowing us to solve our business needs. Excellent product support. Good user community, and great product to customer engagement.
Sometimes there are many ways to solve an issue, and the breadth of possibilities and ability to configure can make it difficult to come up with the best solution that is the easiest to maintain. We've needed to remove some of our solutions because they were solutions that could not grow, and became unwieldy to maintain.
Engage their consulting team. Be very detailed in your review of your business needs, your 5-10 year planned usage / future implementations. Buy the products as needed and don't do workarounds.
Automation of invoice, requisition, and PO process. Paperless accounting. Budgeting and forecasting. Pcard business process implementation. Workflows to prevent incorrect entries into master files,. These are all BIG efficiency gains.
I think it is the best accounting system for travel. It has many different ways to create queries to get all the information needed.
Hotel and Car tracking seems to be an issue with duplications. A lot of it is garbage in , garbage out but the logic still needs refining.
Best Travel system out there.
just great tracking for payables from Travel vendors, reporting options...
I like the agility in areas like workflow, intelagents, scheduled reports, etc
Sometimes Unit4 development seems to focus on frills that don't matter to most customers, like getting Alexa to talk to Wanda. Making existing modules better would be a better use of development time, like allowing timesheet app users to select a position, or making forms more dynamic.
Plan your chart of accounts carefully.
We are using Business World for payroll AP, AR, general finance, asset management, inventory management, budgeting, and more. The biggest problems that is solves is that it reduces manual work by automating things like approvals, workflow, etc, as well as having an audit trail for those things.
What the software is built on. Agresso was built on modern development tools and everything that was used is in the Microsoft Stack. This makes it easy to understand what the code is doing and to make the modifications that are required to run a business. Agresso is built on Microsoft SQL Server and it can be run on Oracle if your business requires it (Oracle db is much more expensive). The big part is the software is built with C# in the .net framework (Huge benefit) the "Top Gen" modification of the GUI is program once for both Desktop client and the Web client (why don't more ERP systems do that?). When using SQL Server the tables and the names are very human readable not some CRAZY normalized db to the extreme (trying to get a tiny bit of extra performance?). This is what ERP software should be like.
Unit4 has been focusing on "Bells and Whistles" to much with "Experience Packs" and not making the back office code with integrations for all modules rock solid. Don't get me wrong when there are integration processes in Agresso they are rock solid it is just the "Sales" department at Unit4 is all about the fancy "Experience Packs".
If you want an actual ERP system build on a modern development environment this is almost the only one on the market. Ask all the other ERP vendors what they are built on and they will try to point you to their add-on's extra programs created with new development but if you dig deep (you REALLY have to push! they don't want you to know) to see that most of the big ERP packages are built on 1970's COBOL or 1980's RPG or some other proprietary development language and it will cost you to fit your business into that system.
We are trying to consolidate a number of in house built programs and put them into Agresso.
The software is constructed logically, so you don't need to know everything from top to bottom in order to find what you are looking for. It's easy to become familiar with it. I mostly used it for inventory management, and it did a pretty good job. Fast and easy to use software, not much training is required for employees. However, because of the wide variety of functions, it takes a lot of time to learn everything and use the software to its best capabilities. Is this enough to receive the ten pound voucher now? It really takes a lot of writing.
The software has too much functions and information sometimes makes it harder to find what you are looking for. This makes it a bit inneficient for first time users, nevertheless it is easy to get around. It is not fully automated, orders are not send to suppliers immediately. Instead, you have to print them, and send them to each supplier manually. This means that you have to have their phones and email addresses handy and with you all of the time. This lack of automation makes the process slower and inneficient in terms of time and effort.
Check out the available support for the software.
Managing supplies, invoices and requisitions within the department. Quick to use software, however, it provides no direct contact with suppliers, I have to email each order to every one of them. It'd be nice if this process is automated. It is not fully automated, orders are not send to suppliers immediately. Instead, you have to print them, and send them to each supplier manually. That we can develop and build a system that meets our demands in terms of functionality and business needs. We have recently upgraded which has meant we can begin to take full advantage of some of the modules available such as Fixed Assets, Procurement, workflow and build a fully integrated ERP solution.
Power is sometimes a weakness and we find the more we develop, the more issues we encounter but much of this is as a result of the speed of change within the organisation, Having said that, we are learning quickly and have great support from Unit4 and our consultants
If you want a system that you can customise and develop then Unit4 ABW is what you are looking for. We have developed the system significantly over the past 18-24 months and are seeing the benefits of utilising an integrated system that we manage as opposed to relying on third parties managing external systems via SLA for example.
The support team at unit4 have been very support and are giving us an excellent service which we combine which partner organisation consultancy support and this works well for us.
We have a number of areas where we are looking to develop and this is proving key as the pressure to create efficiencies grows - we are looking to business world to support this.
Since upgrading, we have implemented, invoice workflow, fixed assets, procurement, agresso forms (partially), and more to come... including web reporting, purchase cards, CIS, budget planner.
The flexibility is great. If you can think it, you can do it. Entering data, reporting data, and importing data can be done many ways making Unit4 easy to use with other systems. If is also easy to get the data you want, how you want it. Getting reports the way you want them is easy in the system.
Users with limited experience can find it hard to use because it is so flexible and there are many menu items and options available. This can be easily solved with training or custom reports for users that have difficulties.
It is flexible which is nice but that also makes it hard to get settings correct. Document and learn the settings.
Unit4 is our main GL software used for day to day entries, tracking of project costs, and payroll. Unit4 also gracefully imports entries from other systems allowing us to keep everything in one place.
