I love that Unily is constantly improving their platform and rolling out new features based on user feedback. There are so many great features, widgets, and integrations with other tools/software. They also have a fantastic learning site, Universe, with guides and resources for pretty much everything you'd need - as well as options to comment, ask follow up questions, and make suggestions for future developments. I find Unily very easy to use once you have had some basic training, and the Unily team is excellent if you run into any questions or need support.
I wish that Unily had an option to hire contractors who were Unily experts and could help us audit and improve our intranet. Other than that, I can't think of anything!
The biggest problem that Unily is solving is "information overload." Before adopting Unily for our intranet vendor, we still sent out most of our employee communications via email. Since adoption, we have reshaped our approach and now have much clearer guidelines for what information should live where. Our employees are happier that they aren't getting bombarded over email, and they know where they can go to find information on general company updates and highlights, department sites, and more.
- the SaaS product has been extremely robust, in over 4 years we have had no overall outages that weren't planned maintenance. There was one incident where the issue was the underlying MS Azure services, but even that affected only a small portion of our users and was quickly resolved.
- Unily is very security / GDPR conscious - this is important to us and Unily has been extremely responsive in addressing any questions we have had in these areas. We consider their compliance in these areas to be top tier among our supplier base.
- The Unily Universe site has so much customer relevant information on all aspects of the product and there is a pretty healthy amount of customer to customer social interaction - exchanging tips, tricks and ideas.
- The platform really gives us a lot of flexibility. There is a huge amount of "out of the box" functionality, that allows us to build our employee intranet and other solutions pretty quickly. And it let's our content creators create engaging content without requiring support from IT. On the flip side, the product allows for a great deal of custom development and configuration and we have taken full advantage of this to develop really cool solutions to business problems.
There are 2 areas for improvement and one area that needs some serious discussions with customers
- improve support. The support team are knowledgeable for the most part, but tickets can take a long time to progress through escalation to closure.
- improve the developer experience. The product offers considerable capabilities for custom development and configuration, and there is a great deal of information available on the Unily Universe customer support site. But more is needed, specifically more support needs to be available to developers on a more timely basis.
- there is a need for Unily to get more input from customers that are impacted by the products switch to the feature store. While this is overall an improvement in how new features are delivered, there have been impacts to the customers that built and customized their Unily content.
- Unily has become our primary channel for employee communications, replacing a number of outdated legacy intranet solutions
- Unily is a hub for accessing our key business applications and for setting up specific sites supporting business functions / organizations
- Our front-line workforce (break-fix service, professional services, managed services) provides most of our business revenue. Unily has become a key component in how we deliver business knowledge to our workforce. For example, our service organization relies on Unily to host thousands of service manual, hundreds of videos explaining how to fix products and FAQs, service bulletins, news about service apps, etc. The other key part of this is that Unily is fully mobile enabled and allows us to distribute a mobile app with all the same content and features as the desktop web version. This gives our mobile workforce full access to the same information as our back office workers.
- Besides our employee intranet, we have build external portals for our customers and our sales and service partners. We are able to load one set of content and share it to employees over the intranet and to our customers and partners over these external portals. One product - multiple portals - no content duplication or replication required. Easy security architecture to safely partition the information in such a way that we can internal information visible only to employees, but share information with external users.
The best part about Unily is the support we get from our Customer Success Manager. We have formal monthly check-ins where we discuss the performance of our platform, brainstorm how to improve and explore new functionalities. Beyond the monthly check-in, our CSM is only one email/call away and is always willing to help us.
The analytics could be better. Everything is manual, so having the option for automated reporting would be extremely helpful!
The options for page layouts and widgets are extremely helpful in supporting us in creating a platform for our team members that is easy to use.
Our experience with Unily has been great. Teresa is a fantastic account manager. She answers or directs our questions in a timely manner, suggests functions/widgets that we could add to our site to increase engagement, and supports our goals. We were particularly pleased with the targeting and theming capabilities as we adjusted the site for an acquisition. Two thumbs up.
I haven't come across anything major. The only thing I can think of is that there is so much functionality, the back end can be a bit confusing until you get into your routine of posting content.
Unily is constantly adding new widget that embrace new technology, address current issues, and solve problems for businesses. They have helped us increase engagement within our workforce. They have also helped us communicate more efficiently.
The platform is highly flexible and keeps expanding its capabilities, which lets us grow our site. The support group works fast at resolving issues.
Using some of the features requires some coding knowledge that not all users have.

A small problem with the CMS is very flawed in the synchronization of the Unily software. It can become better by removing glitches and training the support team.

The only software on which we can rely for instant messaging professionally. The interaction of this software is too good and there are no lags or connectivity problem at all.
If the pricing is a bit lower then it will be easier to have on each system. Pricing is high, which is the only thing I didn't like.

When it comes to maintaining effective communication with the entire work team, Unily is the best option. Loaded with a user-friendly interface and great ease of use, Unily provides us with instant messaging in real time with very fast notifications, it also facilitates collaboration between the entire team thanks to its included tools with which we can share files and documents and thus facilitate the work. Additionally, it has CMS that allows us to quickly connect to other applications such as Sharepoint and Microsoft applications.
Unily has provided us with solutions in a very efficient way, its use has been great, so far I have not found negative aspects in it, there are always details that disgust us, but so far everything has been very good.

It's a slight shame having to pay extra for the branded mobile app
