SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor Reviews

Its a great network monitoring system (NMS) platform that greatly help help our operations to monitor any abnormality on our network.

Its a great tool but its to pricey. I think the #1 issue in Solarwinds is their pricing / costing.

Proactive Network Monitoring. It greatly helps our team to alert to any network issues or downtime.

A few great things about NPM - NetPath, Network Insight for Cisco, F5, Palo Alto, Dynamic Maps, Layer 2 and Layer 3 topology discovery..

NetPath is a great hop by hop analysis tool and very useful for troubleshooting network delays, configuration issues, packet drops along the path taken to reach a particular service being served at a TCP port level.

Network InSights for various devices are adding more value - eg. Cisco ASA HA topology, Cisco stackable switches, Site-to-Site VPN's, F5 load balancing.

Dynamic Maps 2.0 are much better than the erstwhile Network Atlas.

It's not actually a dislike but more of customization flexibility - ability to chose colors, fonts etc on Dashboards, Maps etc.

Need of a common discovery engine across all Orion modules. (This pertains to other modules under Orion like IPAM, UDT, NCM and NTA)

SolarWinds can help by increasing and creating more ready to pick widgets that can be just a drag and drop to dashboards.

Consider the whole stack of Network Modules on the SolarWinds Orion platform rather than NPM as a standalone product. The other modules are real value adds to help you on the journey to Monitor, Manage and Analyze.

The Network monitoring can then be enhanced to include Servers, Applications, Storage, Virtual & Cloud.

The ability to identify hardware issues like power supply failures, cooling issues etc has reduced hardware replacement times.

Performance monitoring metrices have been configured to proactively trigger alerts of different types - email alerts, SMS alerts, Slack messages. This helps with preventing issues from occuring.

Dashboards for various teams have helped with monitoring the right components. The flexibility to include charts, graphs is very useful.

Comprehensive reports of different types availability, utilization, status etc have been able to address all audit and compliance needs.

Creation of users with different roles and responsibilities make it easier to ensure that only the desired users have the rights to view components allocated to them.

NetPath has also helped with identifying bandwidth and latency issues with Service Providers - both Internet as well as Intranet (MPLS leased circuits)

Device Views give a nice visual depiction of the node under monitoring and hence eases the strain of going through logs and other data.

Load Balancer properly routing traffic or not, it's easy to troubleshoot, what’s contributing to a slowness or service outage.

Virtual port channel performance issues can be isolated quickly

Not ready for SDN products such as Aruba Fabric Composer, Aruba CX10000 switches solution, that gives you the end to end visibility of your SDN Controllers, Spine and leaf switches health and performance.

Gives the deep visibility of network infra & VoIP Infra. Reporting and Configuration is easy as compared to other ESM products

User friendly graphic interface. Proactive monitoring becomes easy with solar winds. Easily fetch alert report.

At initial stages , the integration and configuration is quite difficult.

It allows me to proactively monitor nodes/networking devices. We have integrated SolarWind with HPSM so that we get ticket based on alerts.This inturns reduce the time for creating manual ticket. It has inbuilt netwatch feature.

When comes to solarwinds I like their portal/Gui which provides unified and orderly structure that makes easy to monitor the nodes and act accordingly. It has many features which is essential for a productive monitoring.

The network discovery at initial stage and node addition needs more time to do and their one time license cost is very high. Also the tool shows more false positive alerts and they could provide some additional features to find and eliminate those.

We have integrated service now with solarwinds and that auto creates the tickets based on the alert generated. Also to send reports like availablity of nodes, counts etc for business and technical meetings.

It is a one Stop monitoring tool for all kind of network infrastructure like , network performance, link down ,speed monitor, realtime bandwidth monitor, quick report generate, auto events trigger,live monitoring without any delay and many more.

Earlier we used to get some performance issues but now everything got fixed and GUI also improved a lot.

So No dislikes/cons not at all now.

It is very easy to add a device to SolarWinds regardless of the model, and it has a great interface to analyze the data about the added device. You can set up monitoring screens for your teams with custom dashboards.

You can also get reports about the inventory and OS information of the devices you have added to solarwinds.

The biggest disadvantage is that it works with too many resources on the virtual server.

There is a certain limitation for Elements, when you exceed this limitation, you need to set up a new polling engines server, which creates an extra cost.

With Solarwinds, we monitor our entire network 7x24, receive alarms thanks to the thresholds we set, and inform the related teams by mail or call according to their critical, high, and medium levels.

The ease of monitoring switches, routers, etc

The software is kind of pricy, but it works very well.

We can monitor and view our network and receive alerts on when we have issues.

It works right out of the box. Core monitoring such as availability, CPU, memory, interfaces, and volumes are done out of the box.

To display non-out-of-the-box information, we need to know SolarWinds Query Language (SWQL) or SQL.

SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor is a good start, but other modules are needed to monitor other specific parts of the infrastructure, such as storage arrays (Storage Resource Monitor).

Make sure the SLAs are met for different functional areas of the infrastructure. If there are any issues, we can drill in to find the cause.

SolarWinds is an excellent application to supervise the network within the system as I need this type of application to control my network flaws and monitor the coverage from all charges. Thus, this application is helpful in making the ways of powerful networking across the social forums, to find the result of business growth. Its application is very simple and users like me can have this without any trouble because altogether this application is a fantastic source of learning and knowledge to promote the business on every forum.

This application can slow down the system by making a rush of websites so, make sure proper ways of communication and monitoring the system then upload this software for your network.
