Snipe-it seems to work well for us. For a time now, we have been considering asset management, but the complexity of existing systems keeps us from getting started. We got moving swiftly and easy with this one. It fits well.
Setting up the reporting interface for PowerPivot proved to be more difficult than anticipated. I would need a simple button to easily get it out to non-technical individuals.
The product is simple to use, there are some integration and hosting issues with cloud services like ServiceNow. Additionally, it is inexpensive, simple to maintain, and requires no additional expenses.
I can enter and track software purchases and renewals with Snipe-IT. The software enables the PDF contracts of each software to be uploaded to the name, date, and renewal timeframe.
Nothing, I use the free version of Snipe-IT and find that it meets all my needs to track software purchases and renewals. I really appreciate its ability to store the PDF contracts of each software purchase.
I can easily identify which upcoming software renewals and the number of licenses that are coming up for renewal. I can plan my budget around the upcoming budget time period.
Snipe-It makes it very easy to manage your organization's assets. Gone are the days of manual spreadsheets and disorganized assets. Snipe-IT allows us to easily track our assets and assign where they were issued. It has been fantastic to use.
I like everything about SnipeIT. There are lots of features and plenty of ways to customize the application for your specific use case. There are also exports and bulk imports available which saves us tons of time.
We are solving the issue of asset management. Many assets were improperly tracked or that were not inputted into the spreadsheet we were using before, which have just become lost causes. We have realized the benefit of being diligent in asset management which has saved our organization thousands of dollars.
it was straightforward to deploy & use, provide large customization options. this allow to manage licenses & assets
I would like to have better mobile dedicated views
Unified overview of licenses renewal cycle

should have option to integrate ticketing tool
good tool for asset inventory management.
used For Asset Management and auditing.
Snipe is pretty much a turn key inventory tracking system at a very inexpensive price. I consider it a great fit for below 5k-10k assets.
I'd love for Snipe to get a Google connection for user import. Adding users is very easy but it would be nice to have some type of import.
Try it out! You'll quickly know if it is a good fit.
Snipe is an inexpensive solution that is much better than spreadsheet management. You can search by a user, serial number, location, etc. and also create reports. We can quickly determine what age our fleet is and budget for replacements in the following year. I can also easily track warranties, and add locations as needed. Software and components can be assigned to other devices. My goal with Snipe was to have an easy to use tracking system that others could learn very quickly, limit the permission for other users and quickly implement. So far my teammates love Snipe and are very thankful for it.
1+ year update: Snipe continues to be one of the department's best tools. We continue to rely on inventory history and notes. I've also added new hardware types to Snipe in the past year and am impressed by how simple that is. Adding a new model only takes a couple minutes and is easy to repeat. Probably the largest annoyance is that my label printer doesn't always print right.
Everything works, it is open-source, constantly evolving. You can self-host the service or have them host your tenant for a very reasonnable price.
It has a comprehensive API and we plugged this asset management tool to our MDM and several other tools to automate a lot of the asset checkin and checkout.
The components structure of the tool can be a little overwhelming at first but when you get into it, it makes a lot of sense.
The tool also lacks web hooks for events occurring within the asset management to further automate our organization, but the feature is requested and will probably be added in the future.
We are automatically tracking our assets since the moment our new employees self enroll their laptops, to the moment they leave the company.
We've had a 99% accuracy on our devices stocks that we were not ablate get before.
Snipe it is simply the best when it comes to organising your equipment and resources. I've used much (much) more expensive software but, except for a few missing features, Snipe it is just as easy to use, users love it and it's worked flawlessly for years. On top of this you can go for the paid hosting option (around £299 a year IIRC) or host yourself for free! The software is frequently updated and the team work fast to respond to issues and add new features. They've also been great at resolving billing issues etc
Um, really the only thing is that I would dearly love to see this product extended with a calendar booking system for kit. Currently Snipe IT is heavily focused on managing resources in IT. If it had a booking system it would be a perfect fit in education as well. I mean we already use it in education due to the pricing but I can always ask for more!
Give the excellent open source version a go and chuck it up on a web host or internal server. We did and had no issue moving to the paid hosting option which is kept constantly up to date and helps the dev team.
Stopping things going missing, database to remember facts about purchases. Inventory management, PAT testing, exposing available equipment to users, simplifying booking out process, reducing time spent on adding new equipment or onboarding staff.
Basically Snipe-IT is bloody amazing, I've seen it re-used in lots of projects (but never as well in this original product) and except for additional things I wish it did I can't knock any of its core functionality. Training up staff to use it takes no time at all. Whats not to like?
It's incredibly simple to set up (from a Linux admin perspective) and it works incredibly well for tracking, while it's very customizable. Adding pictures of items and having the ability to assign items to either locations or people (with automated emails, nevertheless!) is really genuinely awesome. Plus, the data is never held hostage and is incredibly simple to export into a CSV format, which is commonly used in the industry.
Not to mention the price for self-hosted with self-support? It's FREE. And honestly, that is a massive massive reason why I went with this software.
There's only some minor things I'm not a fan of. For example I'm not sure where I would change the default search field from Asset tag. Also changing the email configuration requires digging through configuration files which isn't all that great for people that might not be as deeply involved into Linux
It's a free software and definitely worth giving a shot if you have unused VM resources. Plus it has a lot of integrations and customizability.
The main problem I'm solving is lack of inventory management within a department. It cuts down on time and trying to work through the master inventory system that our head company provides.
