I wish the vendor portal, CounselGO, had a different name. I wish it was closer to SimpleLegal to reduce confusion with in-house users as well as with outside counsel.

First and foremost, the ease of use and how easy it is to figure out how to use SimpleLegal are some of their real strengths. The UI and the way screen real estate are used make it simple for the casual user and the power user to know where to go and what to do. Next, I would say the customization of the environment is a great benefit. Many ebilling solutions will customize, but the customization is sometimes limited, which makes using the tool burdensome for the casual user. Lastly, I would say the focus and attention to customer satisfaction / support by SimpleLegal is fantastic. I miss having the support chat bot, but the responsiveness of <1 day is going well.
Since the integration with Onit, the customer service aspect has taken a noticeable downturn...we really really liked the chat bot. There are a lot of "little" things that the platform doesn't currently do that I wish it did, such as scheduled reports, better document management; the inability to see a draft of a legal request (having to design a form all over again is rather clunky) but also that our allocation fields are not tied to our legal request forms means we have to keep our allocation information in separate location for users to reference; the inability for users to keep drafts of matter requests is something our users ask for a lot because they have to go back and forth with their clients to gather allocation information.
One of the big improvements I would like to see is the messaging feature keep a log of the messages sent - such as matter referrals, if the invoice / attachment is sent, etc. I would also like to see the messages be auto-copied to the user who is sending the message. I make users interact with vendors in the system and the messaging feature in this respect is key.
It would be great to see SimpleLegal implement an invoice rejection / reconciliation report. One of my month-end close activities is to run reports showing what was rejected and resubmitted / sent to AP. When an invoice is rejected, I don't know why so I have to manually review each rejected invoice each month to apply categorizations to the rejection reasons.
While I've gotten used to the idea that SimpleLegal allows the use of the same invoice number, it would be great if the system automatically either flagged or tagged an invoice that has been resubmitted with either a status (Resubmitted Invoice 123456).
Understand your internal processes very well. This goes for any SaaS implementation. Not all ebilling solutions build in your processes, so if you don't know your processes well and expect the product to do it for you, you will experience a lot of difficulties during the implementation process. Also, take the time to teach your users how to use the system - take them through every stage of matter management and invoice management.
The biggest problem we solve with SimpleLegal is visibility into what outside counsel is doing and how much we're being charged for that work. We have billing guidelines in place, but the line item detail and ease of use of the system allow us to see exactly what vendors are doing for us without a lot of guess work. This, in turn, allows us to answer questions of our executive management team, and talk intelligently about our use of outside counsel. By reviewing the rejected invoices each month, implementing our billing guidelines and reconciling data at the end of the month, we're realizing savings, how we are tracking against our spend targets and how well our users understand and enforce our billing guidelines.
It's extremely easy to sign up, understand and get a handle on.
I didn't dislike the software. I was asked to put different information that was needed.

I have not much business problems, just trying to manage on what I spend per month.
Simplelegal's platform is super user-friendly and intuitive. Previously, I had been processing itemized invoices from 50+ legal vendors, manually breaking out and tracking billing amounts by matter. With Simplelegal, I occassionally update my matter list - and the rest of the work is done for me. I feel more confident that my budget is tracking accurately rather than the old way of entering it into my own spreadsheet.
My only wishes are for Simplelegal to have more options for automated messaging to vendorsm outside of accrual requests - and to have the system integrate better with the billing systems of my A/P department to reduce the work on our side to approve and pay.
In the past, if I didn't properly update my budget tracking spreadsheet immediately upon processing invoices, I would find myself rushing to pull together numbers upon finance's request in terms of accruals, overages, etc. Simplelegal also allows me to view the work by several different methods - invoice date v. the actual time period the work was completed in. I can quickly generate reports on how we are tracking on the budget in a variety of forms.
SimpleLegal has made AP for legal invoices much more efficient, particularly for our legal department which uses a variety of legal service providers. It also provides excellent metrics that I use to see which matters are using the most budget and to measure which firms are providing services efficiently.
The approval workflows help ensure that correct stakeholders are accountable for expenses and the accruals functionality gives our finance team greater visibility into legal spend as well.
I would like to see greater integrations with our finance systems in their product roadmap.
This is a great product that has saved me a lot of administrative work and improved our insights into legal spend.
We had multiple law firms mailing invoices after accruing several months worth of fees and were tracking them manually. Often the totals would come as a surprise and we would have to go back to them to get explanations. With SimpleLegal, we get insight into monthly accruals and can halt work that is exceeding our spend expectations (or adjust budgets) at an earlier stage.
Everything for the most part! It's a very user-friendly system.
There is nothing I don't like about SimpleLegal
Reporting is really easy for the most part.
SimpleLegal's Interface is exceedingly intuitive. In a head-to-head with Thompson's Tracker, my team picked SimpleLegal hands down. In addition, the service provided by our implementation consultant as we got up and running was fantastic. Our consultant guided us through configuration options, the creation of matters, and so forth. I've been very happy with the service overall.
Because SimpleLegal isn't the market leader, some of our firms have struggled a little bit on getting up and running on a new service. Nevertheless, I see these as surmountable issues that we'll iron out over time.
Sales, implementation and support staff all seem to be very high quality. The fact that SimpleLegal is more of a StartUp made us feel like we were getting more personal attention, despite not being that large of a Law Department.
Using SimpleLegal represents my Law Departments first attempt to tame the beast of legal billing. The intention is to simplify the workflow of invoice approval, and also to provide a platform on which we can analyze our spending in much more fine grain detail.
I like the simplicity yet effectiveness of the program.

What do you like best?
Easy process from diligence all the way through Go Live. These guys were awesome to work with all the way through. It's the little things that made it all come together - contracts are very easy and balanced, pricing model is fair and flexes with our growth and finally the implementation team was competent and easy to work with. I don't say this often but it really was a breeze getting this system deployed......
What do you dislike?
We have been live for about 6 months and I really can't complain about anything. We ran into one hiccup where we thought we contracted for a piece of functionality but that was not in the proposal. SimpleLegal team was very helpful in finding a solution that worked for both of us. It would have been easy to hold us hostage but they did not. I think they view small businesses as critical to their long-term growth and it showed throughout.

We are a small legal team that works with a lot of firms. This has really streamlined the invoice management processing for both the legal team but also our AP team with reduced inquiries.
