Screenflow is by far the easiest and most user-friendly video editing tool I've used. I feel it's perfect for anyone who doesn't have a lot of video editing experience and is looking for a reliable tool for quick editing. The software doesn't have any super fancy features, but it's just what I need for quick editing. It's very easy to use and offers some google quality features for both image and audio editing.
I think it lacks some more advanced features and effects for videos. If you need something fancy in terms of, for example, animations and special effects, it looks like it would be harder to achieve the results with Screenflow in comparison to products in the Adobe Suite, for example. However, since I never needed anything that complicated, it's still very good for me.
Screenflow helps me whenever I need to put together a promo video or when I need to quickly edit/crop a video into multiple pieces. I also use it to add subtitles on promo and educational videos. It allows for quick results and can easily export to different formats and sizes. I've also used it in the past for screen capture a few times.
Uncluttered, thoughtful user interface streamlines workflow and makes it easy to apply effects and annotations.
There's not much to dislike about Screenflow, as they continue to regularly make major improvements.
Documenting the software I build is as simple as recording myself using my software. My clients appreciate annotated how-to videos much more than dry text.
Screenflow allows me to flawlessly capture whatever is happening on my laptop or desktop. It allows me to capture input from multiple sources and then edit them independently into one movie document. The ability to add multiple layers with the originally captured content is a wonderful feature for tutorials and educational videos. The ability to rapidly crop a portion of any video clip and layer it above or beneath other videos is something I have wanted in high-end video editors, but never really got. ScreenFlow delivers. Above all, the price bracket is just right for entry-level prosumers.
I want to see a version of ScreenFlow available on Windows and Linux computers. The thing that makes it so good is itss major limitation. It is only available on Mac OS.
Tutorials, educational videos, ASL Interpreting practice, community video projects
It's probably my most-used piece of video creation software. It's definitely my most used for both video and audio editing. It's my daily go-to for SO many projects, big and small. In fact, I've used Screenflow to edit full, corporate-style sales videos. I love it. I don't know what I'd do without it.
This is where I'll have to be honest... because I've used it for YEARS and used it a LOT, I've experienced many crashes, freezes, and bugs. BUT nothing so debilitating that it stops a project in its tracks. Usually, any "bugs" can be fixed by simply restarting the software or the computer. In 10+ years of using Screenflow, I think I've only lost projects due to software errors like 2 or 3 times. Not fun, but a pretty good record for 10+ years.
Screenflow allows me to quickly jump in and create all sorts of video and audio content on the fly, as inspiration strikes or the need arises, without getting bogged down with complex editing.
Screenflow is more than just a screen recording utility: it effortlessly incorporates audio and video media which you drop onto the editor; working with the timeline is very intuitive.
I would like to recommend this to all my friends, but the pricing discourages many.
Make sure the sound levels are sufficient, they cannot be widely adjusted within Screenflow.
I combine video and audio from my online lectures with additional instructional material, to obtain a professionally looking end product with little effort. A small technical issue: I cannot adjust the sound levels over a sufficiently broad range, need a separate audio editor for that.
Screenflow is the easiest video editor I've ever used. Initially, I only used it to capture screen recordings and publish videos of software demonstrations/training. But I eventually began using it for creating any video shorts--even those that used my computer camera.
The timeline is simple to understand. Editing is very easy. And it processes pretty fast.
There really isn't anything I dislike about Screenflow.
If you want to make software training videos or explainer videos (where you record your screen as you go through a PowerPoint or Keynote), this is a great software to have. It records your audio, your screen, and can also record from your computer camera (to capture a face shot).
I create marketing explainer videos for my work, software training videos for my work, and I also create video explanations for my friends and family (e.g. "how to play the piano").
Basically, I create animated slides in Keynote and then I record my screen as I go through the slide show. I also record my screen as I go through a software demonstration and either take a small snippet and turn it into a GIF or publish the video directly to Vimeo so I can share the video with others.
It makes it easy to record training materials, instruction videos for clients and team members, as well as troubleshooting videos for customer support when I have an issue with software etc.
It can be pricey to upgrade when a new version comes out.
We have team members overseas and it makes it a lot easier to communicate with them when we need to show them changes we need on a design etc.
