""Incredible Support for a Great Product that Can Do So Much"
What do you like best about Piction?

Working with the Piction group on a foundation wide (150+staff) usage of their framework for both advanced picture and computerized report the executives has been great. Piction has been extremely comprehension of our needs, and has possessed the capacity to accelerate or back off parts of the procedure to work at our speed, which has not been my involvement with different frameworks before. This has enabled us to take some time inside to tidy up our benefits preceding ingest, so we don't need to manage heritage filenaming/metadata/and so forth issues in Piction. Thus, there has been more prominent staff acknowledgment of the new framework, and we can likewise use our benefits in new routes, for example, through demand shapes for new photography. Being from a vast organization with numerous kinds of advantages with shifting needs, it has additionally been useful that Piction can modify metadata outlines and ingest/download work processes to feet the necessities of contrasting picture accumulations and now our record accumulations (still in the handling of executing). Week after week calls amid the usage courses of events make this conceivable. Their Help Desk is likewise responsive.

What do you dislike about Piction?

I didn't care for that I couldn't do ALL kinds of advanced plan and programming on it. It was at times restricting to the servers and PCs it could be downloaded on, however by and large it was phenomenal.

Recommendations to others considering Piction:

Complete a great deal of research before acquiring any computerized resource the board framework, and ensure you comprehend what your staff need before you execute and rollout the DAM.There is a developing network of social legacy establishments actualizing Piction- - I would proposing connecting with a portion of the organizations presently using to get extra data and have your inquiries replied ahead of time.

"Great Support for a Great Product that Can Do So Much"
What do you like best about Piction?

Working with the Piction team on an institution-wide (150+staff) implementation of their system for both digital image and digital document management has been wonderful. Piction has been very understanding of our needs, and has been able to speed up or slow down parts of the process to work at our speed, which has not been my experience with other systems in the past. This has allowed us to take some time internally to clean up our assets prior to ingest, so that we do not have to deal with legacy filenaming/metadata/etc issues in Piction. As a result, there has been greater staff acceptance of the new system, and we can also leverage our assets in new ways, such as through request forms for new photography. Being from a large institution with many types of assets with varying needs, it has also been very helpful that Piction can customize metadata schemas and ingest/download workflows to feet the needs of differing image collections and now our document collections (still in the processing of implementing). Weekly calls during the implementation timelines make this possible. Their Help Desk is also very responsive.

What do you dislike about Piction?

Honestly there is really not anything that I dislike enough to mention here--whenever things come up that we need tweaked, or if certain of our needs are not being met, we are able to request updates/new features from Piction and have those implemented where feasible (as far as our regular support goes), or Piction will let us know if what we are asking for is a more involved development request, in which case they quote us for that added work. I have been pleasantly surprised though at the variety of needs and requests that are covered by the support that we pay for annually. For similar digital asset management systems, cost is usually a big "dislike," but compared to other products on the market, Piction is a great deal, and the unlimited number of licenses has been VERY important for our institution.

If there is anything that I would mention here as a "dislike" it is that sometimes communication can be a bit unclear when working with the Piction team because we are coming from two perspectives--they naturally consider our assets IN THE SYSTEM, while we need to make decisions (i.e. filenaming, metadata, etc) that take into account the life that these documents may have OUTSIDE OF THE SYSTEM. As a result, we may want to make decisions that they don't think are necessary, but generally we just communicate why we need something and there is no problem with that and we move forward. Ultimately, I mostly leave those conversations with the feeling that the Piction team has our best interests in mind and is looking for ways that we can streamline our processes and conventions.

Recommendations to others considering Piction:

There is a growing community of cultural heritage institutions implementing Piction--I would suggesting reaching out to some of the institutions currently utilizing to get additional information and have your questions answered in advance.

What problems is Piction solving and how is that benefiting you?

Cumbersome workflows for requesting new photography or for rights clearance have been replaced by request forms within Piction, which has saved so much time. Even better than that, unlimited licenses has meant that more staff can have access to the system and are able to fill their own requests by downloading images where copyright clearance isn't needed.

We will also be able to confidently manage our documents long-term for archival preservation. In the past, we have had no centralized location for institutional documents, and for born-digital items, this can be a huge problem. E-mail is particularly difficult to get staff to comply with records retention schedules, but Piction provides a plug-in for Outlook e-mail which allows staff to send e-mail chains directly from their Outlook inboxes to designated folders on their department or to communal project folders under our document management module in Piction. They have similar plug-ins for Microsoft Office Suite that we will also utilize. This is institutional memory that may have been lost, along with legal and fiscal responsibilities that we may not have been able to fulfill that now we can be more confident about retaining/destroying on schedule.

"I have installed Piction sortware for 3 different institutions"
What do you like best about Piction?

I love the adaptability and the openness to customization that Piction offers. The team at Piction works really hard to be a partner with the museums they work with instead of just another vendor. They have so much experience with the special needs that museums face for DAM, and always come up with great solutions. They are a great team to work with. One of the great features in Piction is the ability to build customized workflows for all staff needs, from simple ingest requirements to Rights & Permissions for copyright sensitive material to even new photography requests. You can build out your entire workflow using Piction from request to delivery, beginning to end.

What do you dislike about Piction?

That is a tough question. I can't say there is anything I dislike because when I find something that doesn't work well for my museum I discuss it with the Piction team and we find a solution to make it better. The software is very adaptable.

Recommendations to others considering Piction:

Don't be shy about letting them know exactly what you need. They have probably heard it all before, and if they haven't you can be sure they will work with you to create what you need.

What problems is Piction solving and how is that benefiting you?

The largest "problem" we are solving is open access to collections images. Piction integrates seamlessly with our web CMS to provide all collections information and digital assets to our website. We are able to control ALL rights and permissions for download access to public domain assets directly through metadata in Piction. All collections information is mapped directly from TMS into Piction and then published to the web via Piction. All images associated with the collection objects are delivered directly from Piction. Internal access and structure is pretty straightforward.
