"Pear Deck Review"
What do you like best about Pear Deck?

Pear Deck is a great tool for the classroom to get students engaged with the content. It allows those students who may learn differently or be a little bit shy, to get involved at their own pace and style.

What do you dislike about Pear Deck?

Pear Deck sometimes seems to not update between sessions if changes have been made to the slideshow document. This can sometimes be frustrating, as I like to update my slideshows regularly.

What problems is Pear Deck solving and how is that benefiting you?

Pear Deck is allowing those students who otherwise would not be engaged with the classroom discussion or content to get engaged and feel part of the classroom discussion.

"Peardeck helps me know where my students are at"
What do you like best about Pear Deck?

In the premium version, I love being able to review student answers in real time. This helps me know if I need to explain something better before the class period ends.

What do you dislike about Pear Deck?

I dislike that I am unable to do see student answers on the free version. I need to rely on my school to buy it, if I don't. I also wish the user interface was better on the phone.

What problems is Pear Deck solving and how is that benefiting you?

Peardeck helps my teaching be more productive and stops me from needing to walk around to every student to see what they are writing. I can just look at it from my phone.

"Incredible add-on for Google Slides to make any presentation interactive"
What do you like best about Pear Deck?

Able to add questions, polls, and other items to a Google Slides presentation to get instant feedback from audience. Also, they've added a vocabulary tool that is excellent for students to use to build Quizlets they can study from

What do you dislike about Pear Deck?

My only wish would be the cost would be a little lower but it is totally justified with how great the tool is

Recommendations to others considering Pear Deck:

The drawing feature can have so many uses- be creative! I have a slide I do in the beginning of presentations that has a bunch of emojis and they have to circle a few that show how they feel. I've also done it that they draw an emoji. It's a fun check in to see how they're doing

What problems is Pear Deck solving and how is that benefiting you?

Provides instant feedback on audiences understanding of a topic and allows you to differentiate for your audience

"Interactive presentations at their best!"
What do you like best about Pear Deck?

I love how Pear Deck takes a regular presentation and instantly adds a level of engagement unsurpassed by basic platforms like Slides and PowerPoint. Whether in person or remote, students and adults alike are automatically engaged in the content.

What do you dislike about Pear Deck?

There is very little I dislike about Pear Deck. It is an incredible platform on many levels!

Recommendations to others considering Pear Deck:

If you are looking for a tool that engages all audience members - whether teachers, students, or in other environments - then Pear Deck will fit the bill perfectly. Because it takes your already-created Power Points and Google Slides presentations and adds the interactive elements to them, the work you've already done isn't wasted.

What problems is Pear Deck solving and how is that benefiting you?

Engagement, focus, and attention during meetings and classes are a thing of the past when PearDeck is in use! Because the content is on each participant's screen automatically via PearDeck, everyone is more engaged. Because Pear Deck's built in tools allow for audience response - via text input, drawing, drag and drop - make it so easy to collect information that allows the presenter or teacher to gauge the room's understanding, gather questions, or gain general input.

"Necessary for Engagement Tracking"
What do you like best about Pear Deck?

I love that Peardeck allows me to track my students progress and engagement in class on my google slide deck while I'm presenting. My favorite feature is that I can also control the slides from my phone while projecting from my desktop.

What do you dislike about Pear Deck?

I dislike that Peardeck does not incorporate any video integration into their systems. I would love to see students able to submit video recordings on a slide or even audio, not simply text or listen to audio and respond.

What problems is Pear Deck solving and how is that benefiting you?

Over online learning during the thick of the pandemic and currently in person, this product is life saving as an educator. It tracks all my students responses And then categorized and summarizes the input so I know who is paying attention and who isn't. I can use it for classwork or homework!

"Pear Deck - Engagement for the Win!"
What do you like best about Pear Deck?

I love that Pear Deck engages my students online so everyone can be engaged, even during concurrent teaching.

What do you dislike about Pear Deck?

I would love to be able to add pictures or words impromptu while presenting. I wish had some more complex features so students could add on to the Pear Deck and annotate.

Recommendations to others considering Pear Deck:

I would highly recommend Pear Deck if you are looking for a new way to engage your class online and in person. Using google slides, everything is already set up for you, and you just run the Pear Deck. If your district has not purchased it, please show them the research out there about improved engagement.

What problems is Pear Deck solving and how is that benefiting you?

As mentioned, I love that it is instant engagement to see if students are payiing attention and understand a concept. It allows my students to work in a teacher-paced or student-paced environment, which is an excellent feature. It can be used as a simple review assignment or a whole class activity.

"Interactive Learning for the Win"
What do you like best about Pear Deck?

Ease of use - choose from the extensive Pear Deck template library or add on to existing slides presentations with an interactive question

What do you dislike about Pear Deck?

Some of the template slides seem like they are for K-8 level students in the graphics, but this is a minor dislike. All the templates are editable.

Recommendations to others considering Pear Deck:

Invest in the premium features. If there is one tool we recommend to our teachers and that has been received well, it's Pear Deck. The Take Aways alone are worth the premium subscription.

What problems is Pear Deck solving and how is that benefiting you?

With students learning both in person and online, this is a way to present to both groups at the same time. There's a "forced engagement" rather than sitting there hoping the students are paying attention to your presentation. Also, there is a self-paced mode so students can go through the presentation on their own if they are absent (or this feature can be used as a pre- or post- assessment.

"OMG! Great and interactive!"
What do you like best about Pear Deck?

I teach high school French, and in this time of online education, teaching a foreign language digitally has been difficult. PearDeck, which I was recently referred to, helps me bring back the engagement and interaction into my class for the physical students in the classroom and the digital students at home. I love the Flashcard Factory, in which the students receive terms that we've been working on. Then, in pairs, students create a picture that best illustrates that term and write a sentence that conveys its meaning/use. As a teacher, I can see the progress of the teams on screen. The final component of this activity is the acceptance/rejection phase, in which the teacher (perhaps with the help of the students) rate and provide feedback on each submission, accepting those that work and rejecting those that don't. It's about quality control.

What do you dislike about Pear Deck?

I haven't been working with PearDeck long enough to find some real issues; however, I would say that I don't like the fact that I cannot--or at least don't know to--pick up where we left off in the Flashcard Factory or the guided presentations. We either have to start over, or I have to make a second set that picks up where the students left off. Sometimes, it's difficult for me to gauge how many terms are enough for the length of class.

Recommendations to others considering Pear Deck:

While I have used it only for a foreign language, I'm sure that it has it's benefits in other subject areas. I recommend this product to anyone who wants to find an interactive way of quickly assessing what their students know while also having the students somewhat enjoy it.

What problems is Pear Deck solving and how is that benefiting you?

PearDeck is bringing the interaction and life back into my class. The first time that I used it, students were clearly having fun with it and actually laughing and learning at the same time. The interactive presentation component allows me to give live feedback to students as they complete various brief tasks, like translations or sentence-building. I can quickly see who has it and who doesn't.
