Drilling down so deep into an allocation and seeing exposures that you might not have been aware of.
Wish it were easier to just compare 2 funds side by side.
Portfolio review.
Excellent research and analyst reporting capability, lot of functionality for various disciplines across asset management
its A very slow system, due to all the capabilities it has. That’s the only downside
Be patient, it is worth the capabilities
Investment research, analyst reports, investment selection management, reporting
Different modules offer different functionalities. The presentation studio makes generating reports so easy. Workspace and performance reporting are also used frequently.
Data is sometimes not correct e.g. management fees, MERs.
Easy to do industry competitive analysis. Assets and flow data are also very helpful
There's an incredible amount of data on the platform, you will get everything you need on direct. The research team in morningstar also publishes great articles.
The user interface needs an uplift, morningstar direct has been a product for decades and the UI is very outdated from the current industry standard.
Access to market data
Very familiar with products over 30 years. Ease of navigation and helpful tools and ideas
Rising costs of the service and a lot of up sell
Utilize the support to maximize the benefits of all its products, not just “direct”
Just streamlining my work, super helpful for research and find comparisons
Large and comprehensive database of global investment products, easy to navigate and conduct research, all-encompassing selection of investment-related datapoints, ability to create professional visuals and presentations.
Subpar fixed-income analysis capabilities, lack of real-time security valuation and analysis.
If you are involved in the investment management and wealth management industry, Morningstar Direct is a great tool to use.
Creation of professional reports detailing investment performance and holdings-related data.
Easy to pull data in mass together vs other platforms. Lot of detail offered, data can be used as a proxy/relative to each other.
Hard to find particular fields, difficult to find quick customer service for questions, data is not always accurate.
Having a database of funds and being able to look at the data in one place altogether for comparative/easier access without having to worry about data restriction pulls
Clean interface and easy to navigate
I also loved the ability to create investment portfolios and backtesting their performance. At the time of my using, backtesting was only available in Morningstar Direct. This gives you more confidence in your portfolio and allows you to test different allocations for your portfolio.
Limited capabilities for Fixed income and it was quite Expensive. I think we used to pay close to $20k per year for this.
I also did not enjoy the fact that its not a cloud based software and I needed to carry my laptop everywhere.
Its an expensive tool but can be quite useful for Investment Analysis. Schedule a demo session with the team to make sure you will be getting your money's worth.
Building investment portfolios for clients and doing equity analysis. The main benefit was ability to find adjusted EPS as per Monrningstar's Anslysts. The analysts already clear the noise from the data allowing you to focus just on analysis and not on cleaning the data. This saved me 100s of hours in analysis
The quant information and the overview of financials are a good first look at the company.
Very shallow and just computer based. There is no real insight behind it.
Just using it as an addition to other sources.
