Easy texture and painting very realistic
It's very complicated to beginners to learn
Compare with other software it's easy problem solving textures
Best UDIMs workflow, node-base system, python scripting
It demands powerful hardware. Baking is not perfect(Substance has better solution). Price too high.
I used Mari for usual texture painting. It has excellent painting tools, can handle hundreds UDIMs. I could write my own scripts to speedup the work.
The ability to paint huge texture maps with resolutions spanning 1k-64k, with UDIMs and Layer support. the ability to import photoshop brush presets directly, which is a huge time saver since the need to create new bursh presets for mari is eliminated. Even with such high resolution Layered and UDIM texture MARI is very responsive while painting textures it allows for direct import export to psd files. it even allows to build occlusion maps for using as dirt maps etc within the MARI itself.
Depends on an a decent Nvidia GPU with Cuda support, so AMD card users are left out here. A minor lag occurs right before navigating viewport as the currently painted strokes are baked into the texture map before navigation proceeds. Since it's purely a texturing app any sort of modification to the model is not possible even if minor tweaks, which is possible in competing apps like Mudbox or Zbrush.
If you need a stable and high quality texture painting app which does what its best at doing, look further Mari is for you.
Painting textures at extremely high resolutions 16k-64k with layers and UDIM with an interactive view in the viewport which was previously not possible.
It made texturing so much fun and easy to do, no more go back and forth between photoshop and 3D software, guessing where the seams are, trying hiding them.
sometimes it crash while you are in the middle of your work.
also I wish if there's more control on navigation like for example holding shift in ZBrush to snap the view in orthographic and so on.
Extension Pack did some quick masking like in Quixel, but still leak of control and you should work with them on node mode.
I do recommend it very much, it will save you so much time.
Gives you the end result so quickly before exporting to your 3D package, so no need to do some tests here and there.
no more straggling on hiding seams... and procedural layers are just fantastic.
Incomparable texture painting in 3d. Projections, live paint, deformations you name it
Very Slow and buggy. New features are prioritzed over performance impvoments
Use it alongside Maya or Houdini to get the most out of it. Would definitely not recommend to people who are scared of comples user interfaces!
Other software does not allow the quality of texture painting that Mari offers
This is a very valuable texturing tool. The projection painting is so useful.
This toolset is a bit expensive and takes some learning, but other than that I loved the product.
This helped with texture painting. The benefits are the high resolutions.
I like that it is just as powerful as other industry tools like the substance package, however there still is a bit of a leaning curve and tools work differently but still great in its own right.
The learning curve, clustered UI but you can edit all that.
Update regularly, check out tutorials and it will do wonders!
This package helps for odd end things so it is good to have this with other software.
Once you get through the interface and start working with MARI there is no more robust texture toolset on the market. MARI can work with huge texture sizes and multiple UDIMS, putting it into a class leading workflow. The controls are simple and intuitive and the ability to work woth a wide range of file types is excellent too. In version 3, The Foundry have added a wide range of shader options covering a wide range of render and game engines from V-ray to Unreal to allow full clarity of how your textures will look in the finished scene. Also the range of camera and projector options means that MARI can be an excellent tool for creating roto patches as well as solving a lot of retouching issues.
As with most Foundry products, MARI is expensive compared to the competition. Also MARI is a hardware hog, so check the specs of your system to make sure it is compatible, forget it you don't have a discreet GPU. Another thing that MARI could do with is a range of preset textures and material to get you up and running, which a lot of it's competitors come with.
Check the specifications of your machine, if it is capable of running MARI, there are few applciations which cater so well for texture creation for any case use
Mari is excellent for creating textures for 3D models and offers workflows especially at higher res which cannot be matched by any application on the market
Final results are impressive, this software gives you all the control for a precise paint and blend between layers. Price is very good for such a piece of software
A lot of patience is required, it's not an easy software and requires a lot of time to be understood.
You can try it for free from the official website
It allows fast preview of the painting and gives a lot of tools for layer editing. It is a must-have software for big studios, probably best if used beside Substance or another similar software

Mari is the most crucial texturing application for the professional CG industry. It is user-friendly and simultaneously packs all the features required to maintain a smooth pipeline flow in a big studio.
It lacks the integration of a good renderer for checking the textures in the program itself. However, that might change with upcoming updates.
Mari can handle lots of high-resolution lossless textures where other programs usually fail. In addition, it features Node-based workflow, a massive upgrade from the traditional layer-based workflow.
