A Fun and Engaging Way to Learn Languages
What do you like best about Duolingo?
My German language class teacher told me to use the Duolingo app. This is the best app ever I used to learn a language. Highly recommended to everyone. You can gain the premium version for some days by completing lessons and opening reward chests. This is super cool.
What do you dislike about Duolingo?
Sometimes in talking lessons, the app does not recognize my voice. It's the only problem I faced.
What problems is Duolingo solving and how is that benefiting you?
Basically, I use the Duolingo app to learn the German language. This app helps me to memorize vocabulary because of its teaching style. Also, we can retake previous lessons. It helps me to learn language fast.

A great way to learn German but …..
I’ve been enjoying Duolingo and practicing every day since March ‘24. However, I did originally agree to a free Trial - that was ok and they reminded me after the ‘free week’. However, after agreeing to a longer second ‘free trial’, I noticed they just took my money! Annoyed but I’m enjoying it. However, Duolingo are now offering me a free trial if a Family Plan which I do not want! It now says ‘get started’ at bottom of page - I’m not willing to do that in case they decide to charge me after that ‘free trial’ - I don’t need a Family Plan anyway !

Only had the chance to learn French in…
Only had the chance to learn French in school, and it was taught very badly. Now am taking the chance to learn a new language and much enjoying this.

I honestly do not know why it has such a low score. It does not deserve it at all.

Despite claims to the contrary, you CAN practice and gain more hearts, the adverts are brief and really not annoying (they have nothing on Youtube ads), and the lessons are useful.

I see a lot of cheapskates complaining that the free app is not good enough for them to become fluent. Well, it's free. How about you consider PAYING for something that you use?

Overall then, ignore the low score on here; its made up of people who are not really giving an honest picture (are they paid by the competition?). I've been using it a couple of weeks now and my german truly is improving!

Good language learning app
Good language learning app, I have learned a lot in it and it is very convenient. The subscription is a good price for what you get.
I have noticed it is quite difficult to use if you haven't got the subscription and the ads make it very frustrating. Someone I know does not use it at all anymore as he feels like the ads aren't even to make money ( they are just advertising their subscription ) they're just trying to annoy you into buying it, which doesn't really encourage people into wanting to help you.
With the subscription it serves as a very helpful language learning resource. I think that people who say it isn't effective are wrong, however using other resources as they like to point out is definitely helpful.

I believe people don´t really know how to use the app and what they can realistically expect from it.
I think that only unhappy customers are writing reviews... let´s change that because I believe people don´t really know how to use the app and what they can realistically expect from it.
I first made my Duolingo account in 2016, to learn some English (my native language is Portuguese). I was a bit lazy back then, so I didn´t use the app very often.
In 2020, I got back and started learning German. I was living in Austria at the time, and the app was an excellent addition to the formal course I enrolled in. Since then, I have used it to learn a bit of a few different languages and to improve my English, as I had to take a proficiency test not long ago.
The thing is.. you cannot think that the app will make you fluent, especially if it is the only means you use to learn the language you are studying. And yeah, the courses may have a few errors, but again, you need to study from other sources too. And you need to USE the language - watch movies, listen to music, attempt to have conversations... and be patient.
Language acquisition is a complex and time-consuming process. Don´t blame the app for your unrealistic expectations...
Also, do some research about Duolingo for Schools. It´s another very nice resource!
