Solid product with great support

What do you like best about Code Climate Velocity?

I love that I have the ability to view my team's, as well as IC's, performance at a granular level. Understanding developer performance is always such a challenging task.

What do you dislike about Code Climate Velocity?

Some of the metrics within Code Climate are a little vague. Metrics like "Impact" sound like it would provide tremendous value however, a deeper understanding of what actually goes into that metric would be much more helpful to assess its true value.

What problems is Code Climate Velocity solving and how is that benefiting you?

Code Climate helps me to understand exactly how my team compares to the rest of our organization and allows me to view individual IC performance to better understand areas where I can support them better.

Unprecedented levels of insights and visibility into Engineering

What do you like best about Code Climate Velocity?

Velocity is incredibly easy to use and drill down into Engineering productivity metrics. It connects with every tool we use, including Github and Jira and reveals all the DORA metrics we want to see, activity, throughput, etc.

What do you dislike about Code Climate Velocity?

Tracking of key organizational events, like process or personnel changes, can be easier - I'd love to be able to see when these events occured alongside the metrics and charts to see possible impacts. I'd also like to create my own dashboards, and see more robust aggregation / breakdowns of metrics.

What problems is Code Climate Velocity solving and how is that benefiting you?

CodeClimate shows me the activity happening in the engineering organization and allows me to tie it into other activity and outcomes happening in other systems very easily. This allows me to have clear indicators of things like blockers or slowdowns that can receive intervention much earlier, and shows me patterns in team or organizational behavior that I can address managerially.

Easy to use interface, accurate data, and highly responsive

What do you like best about Code Climate Velocity?

Analytics. Being able to build out the metrics we're focused on with the ability to save as reusable reports. Compare feature. I love this. To be able to evaulate across teams/users to identify outliers, top performers, or areas are concern are extraamly valuable.

What do you dislike about Code Climate Velocity?

Targets but I bleive that is a result of how we're not fully using that feature.

What problems is Code Climate Velocity solving and how is that benefiting you?

Pinpoint areas that need enhancement, particularly in relation to cycle time, process throughput, rework, and associated problems. Utilize various reports and dashboards effectively to identify these issues and proactively tackle them. Before the adoption of the Velocity tool, there was considerable blame shifting regarding the sources of our inefficiencies. However, with Velocity, the data offers undeniable truth.

Particular metrics I leverage a lot to form the story for engineers is coding days, code reviews, and PR throughput. Though it does not give the full story, it comprehensively provides the snapshot of coding activity for individuals and teams.

Recommendations to others considering Code Climate Velocity?

The visualization of coding activity throughout a calendar view is very helpful to diagnose periods of time I can surmise an individual is motivated vs not motivated with their work.

What problems is Code Climate Velocity solving and how is that benefiting you?

Some metrics are not as useful because the realities of the job can heavily skew the values and thus I do not pay attention to them at all.

The product is easy to understand and to use, good velocity delivering new features, and also the support is very fast answering questions.

Code Climate Velocity focuses on tracking the activity of individual developers. The downside to having different views for different user levels is that it can create mistrust in the organization and make developers feel like they're being watched.

What do you like best about Code Climate Velocity?

I love that you can get actionable notifications and reports on the things that are adding drag to your development processes. We all want more velocity and hope is not a strategy. Velocity is a great part of your strategy for getting the team focused on output.

What do you dislike about Code Climate Velocity?

I wish that code climate velocity had more ad hoc charts and that it could do more to take work days and work hours into account when generating its metrics. This can make things a little noisy and less useful.

What problems is Code Climate Velocity solving and how is that benefiting you?

Code Climate velocity gives me a great view into what my engineering team is doing and where we're losing cycles. It has really helped us get the whole engineering team optimizing throughput. Once you have things moving through the system quickly you can point the system at the right problems.

I really like the rework metric, also the monthly overview gives me an idea of how productive I was w.r.t to writing code for a particular month.
