I like how a customer is recommended additional products when they are in the checkout page. It definitely helps improve sales all around without having to do much work.
The different plans can be a bit pricey.. might not be a smart investment for a start up.

One page checkout hopefully improves the conversion rate. You can customize the page freely.
There are some bugs when doing the checkout pages because there a lot of cases that the live page and page on the editor looks different.
The default and other checkout apps process takes 3 pages for the customers to place order. With carthook you can have 1 page to complete the checkout.
It allows us to truly customize the checkout page by having a separate checkout page for various channels and segments of customers. It also allows us to (with some custom code) place our subscription product in their one click upsell offering. We also like the drag and drop editor for the one click upsell.
They are deprecating this product and moving to just be a Shopify app. This severely limits their ability to do things and the support levels that they are giving customers currently on this product is waning significantly.
We are able to make more money due to being able to accept various payment types using our ideal processor (Braintree) and are able to use all of these for our subscription product as well as individual sales.

PROS: CartHook is useful in helping us sell more items through upselling. It does a great job of offering people more items to purchase before checking out. I see an increase in our sales that don't require us to exert so much effort into selling them.
CONS: The cost of acquiring CartHook may be an issue for new business owners. The price is quite steep, so I'm hoping that they can do something about it so more people could afford to use it.
