The ability to organize and group devices based on different group policies allow customization based on individual team/group needs. Remote management of devices makes our life easier while investigation any issues/root cause. As most AWS products, there is an awesome support for SDKs in multiple languages

It uses lot of AWS could infrastructure and services making it tightly coupled with AWS infra. AWS IOT device management could be an expensive solution for some of the small/mid tier companies

Evaluate the Cost and Investment into AWS infrastructure

We were trying to build a device lab with a fleet of 100s of mobile devices to support our development, build and testing needs. IOT Device Management helped us in monitoring, updating and patching our fleet to keep our build systems up and running

I used it in a project where I had to get data from a gas leakage detector and send it to cloud and run some script to derive knowledge out of it.

My findings:

- Very easy to send data to cache ( elastic cache )

- Support is available.

- Pay as you go.

- Provides for all platforms.

- Availability of queue services is good.

Not much to dislike.

However, the UI is complicated to use in the beginning.

Only available with AWS Services.

The user needs to invest some time in learning before implementing.

With LoT device management, adding device attributes to LoT registry is fast and secure.

In addition it provides bulk addition too

sometimes bulk loading runs into issues and debugging is bit cumbersome but not difficult

Best Things About AWS IoT Device Management

1. Management of IoT Devices for tracking and monitoring different devices for data storage, and security in one place

2. Configuration and organization of different connected devices are easy

3. Costing with fewer devices is cheap

4. It is simple to query a group of devices and compile device record information.

Things I don't like about AWS IoT Device Management

1. For a large number of devices, the cost is a bit on the higher side

2. Analytics and visualization data is difficult to understand at first

3. Setup for new user is a tedious task
