Create mapping apps for the web without code
It is easy to use, and doesn't require coding experience.
Certain things, such as widget placement, could be more customizable.
I use Web AppBuilder to allow co-workers and clients to easily explore spatial data without having to go into more complex software programs they may not be familiar with.
Ability to get a functional, dynamic, cross browser and platform support web application up and running very quickly. There is a wide range of tools and widgets provided with the default install, however you can donwload extra widgets or tools from the Geonet forums to give you more functionality. If these do not suit your needs, you can (using the developer version) edit the javascript of existing tools or widgets, or even create your own for more specific tasks
You are not able to upload custom widgets to the AGOL version of Web App Builder. Many people have requested this to be added and ESRI is considering it.
If you only need basic functionality (customise) then the online (agol or portal) version is fine. However if you need to edit and develop your own themes or custom widgets, you need to use the developer edition
Our main web/map viewer is powered by Web App Builder. This allowed us to very quickly get a suitable platform up and running. It is stable, configurable, customisable and very powerful. Has suited our needs perfectly
The ease that it comes with to quickly stand up web apps for clients and that it comes with Portal. I also like that I can download it and deploy it on a web server, without having to go through Portal on a dedicated URL.
It takes some time and research to find add-on widgets, but it's easy to find them on GeoNet. Some widgets don't offer many instructions on how to "install" them, but once you get one widget that provides instructions, it gets easy from there.
Make sure to have Portal/ArcGIS Enterprise installed to make this work. Otherwise, there is the Web AppBuilder for developers, for... developers, that prefer to have this installed on their local machine.
Displaying certain views, or making comprehensive web apps that shows all available data layers. It makes it easy to see all the available data.
The WebApp Builder is pretty quick and efficient for setting up web apps which are visually appealing and useful to non-GIS users. Once they're set up, they should be able to run with relatively little effort on my part and save me time to focus on other priority projects.
Only complaint is how there are limitations to some of the customizations, unless I'm missing something. But it's saved me too much time for that to be a deterrent.
Click around in each of the widgets to see what you can edit/change. Set up field aliases before loading to your Portal site. This will save time of going in and creating more user friendly field names after the fact.
I've used this to create web apps for the land managers, lease analysts, geologists, and others within my company to quickly and efficiently view and print maps. We were using ArcReader previously but that loaded so much more slowly than a website.
Ease of creation. Its so easy to import data into it and create a brand new app. Ability to customize between Various layers and designs makes it even more promising
Although there are a set of customization options...the builder lacks core purpose of creating using GIS data. Some of the defaults are not appropriate and is a bummer.
please add the option to implement projections inside the app insed of editing in a GIS app.
Adding Data from Csv to build map layers for our web application.
Easy to create maps with layers and custom symbols. Easy analytics for quick reporting.
No custom widgets unless you host your own server.
ArcGIS Online does not allow for custom widgets, so you will need to setup your own server.
Creating maps for editing data and capturing new spatial information
It's very intuitive, and let's you build Web App with little coding experience.
It has it's limitations within the program, but can be supplemented through other means.
I would highly recommend this to those who have little or no experience in programming. This is a great tool and stepping stone to creating somewhat more customizable web applications.
Creating easy and function applications to extend online web mapping.
Selecting templates and widgets makes it really easy to set up and publish apps for many different uses. Being able to use things across multiple web apps cuts down on development time and lets you focus on just the tweaks needed to customize for each set of users.
One of the little things I've found that is slightly annoying is there's no option to hide ESRI's Living Atlas data within the Add Data panel so it makes it hard to focus in and browse just your internally created data rather than searching with keywords.
Once you've started with all of the stock options there's a lot of really great custom widgets that you can find on GeoNet that can extend the application's capabilities.
Everyone across different departments has access to the information that they need to do their job and aren't overwhelmed by everyone else's data that they don't need all the time.
Web Appbuilder is really easy to use and learn.
Some of the features on the app doesn't work.
With web Appbuilder you can deploy the app to people that aren't GIS users.

It's so easy to use. Unlike some of it's competitors it allows you to create apps that will run on ANY device.
If I had to pick one negative, it's that it does not allow you to add custom widgets to your projects, unless you pay extra for the developers version.
