Before signing upto Aiven, i had a video chat with 2 of the Aiven team who went through how to setup an account through to creating a new postgresql database and where to find the settings, logging etc. Since the video chat, i have now signed up Aiven and created a new database very quickly and was up and running firing a migration to a test database within a few minutes.
When platforms generally say something is easy, take a few minutes i am scepticle, but Aiven was true to their word, it was very easy to setup.
Have not found anything not to like with Aiven as yet.
We currently have an On-Premise database server which feeds an internal billing system and customer facing website. So moving the database to Aiven removes the database server. We also needed a service that was managed to eliminate the need and worry about patching and maintenance and having an Australian Region here in Sydney was a bonus aswell as local support by people nit bots.
Great tool for prototyping ideas. Effortless setup process saves time and energy for more business related tasks.
Not so much. Everything seems to work great. Thanks for streamilning and simplifying what I find least intuitive part of creating back end services.
It streamlines process of creating back end service and makes prototyping ideas faster.
Aiven is a fantastic platform for getting up and running as quickly as possible. The cost is very competitive and flexible. The number of database options covers nearly all of our development and POC use cases. It is very easy to provision and to tear down and integrating with our existing development tooling is very simple, and we do not have to worry about usage, egress overages while prototyping and rapidly proving out MVP value.
Some parts are not as customizable and easy to use as I would like, such as managing static IP addresses, customizing environment variables or config settings, and some features that are available in the tool do not seem to be available in Aiven, for example, with Clickhouse, not all of the secondary storage and remote table engines were compatible.
Aiven is giving us a very fast and simple way to provision development databases that are fully compatible with our existing tooling and production environments. In addition to OpenSearch and PSQL, we have also tried Aiven Grafana and Aiven for ClickHouse.
It's performant, easy to deploy, very easy to scale both up and down.
Regarding psql? Nothing really. It works just great. Maybe they are little bit on expensive side? But you're get what you're paying for.
We're using it as main relational data storage.
It provides easy to configure steps, and I believe new users just like me will have no difficulties setting up their own platform on top. The flexibility offered also quite vast choices in terms of giving me lots of options to configure.
I found the only thing I dislike is the positioning of options switches which is too far away from the description of the options. I guess this is only my opinion, but it would be even nicer / easier if the switches are put closer to the options descriptions.
I am planning to create a data mirrors which will act somewhat like a DR data to our on premise open databases. And Aiven provide just the right platform to do the test.
Zero downtime upgrades, database forking, point-in-time recovery, multi-replica deployments, added services marketplace. Aiven has been rock solid and predictable. Focus on core products and services is also greatly appreciated!
There is a distinct lack of out-of-the-box alerting policies. It's possible to send logs into centralized storage, but the value of Aiven is opinionated defaults, not making customers figure out how to monitor their databases properly. This seems to be low hanging fruit that should be straightforward to address.
Aiven has allowed us to consolidate all of our HA database hosting needs with backup and disaster recovery mechanisms that we can rely on without ongoing maintenance.
I like how easy it is to navigate the user interface, especially how easy it is to set up a local connection to a remote database.
To be honest, there isn't anything about Aiven that I dislike!
We needed a reliable database provider for our PSQL databases. We had previously dealt with overly-complicated solutions of running on baremetal which just wasn't cutting it.
Really easy to use and well-implemented way to run PostgreSQL without headaches.
The only thing I can complain about is that I had to manually calculate the time offset for our maintenance window, which is a totally minor issue.
Aiven greatly reduces our Ops requirements for managing databases.
I've found Aiven's support for Postgres to be much more full-featured than other platforms provide. The uptime and operational stability is (IMO) best in class for postgres, much better than you get from e.g. RDS. I love that it comes stock with a much wider set of postgres extensions than you get from other cloud providers - being able to opt in to using Timescale or PostGIS when you need to is key.
My minor complaint is that I'm a Pulumi IAC user and I'd like for Aiven to have better support for Pulumi, so that we could spin up infrastructure from within our IAC tool of choice. Ultimately though this isn't the most major deal.
The stability and uptime guarantees that Aiven provides allows our team to not have to hire a postgres DBA to use our database. It's really beneficial because we put some serious load on postgres and it's great that we still don't have to hire someone just for this need.

The user-friendly interface and robust monitoring features and easy integration and implementation with my favorite languages.
Nothing at the moment. Aiven is fantastic!
Aiven Platform simplifies data infrastructure management, saving time and resources.
Aiven have significantly enhanced the efficiency and reliability of my data infrastructure, allowing me to focus more on strategic tasks rather than operational hassles.
